1. Piston Plasbos
Lelystad is surrounded by green areas that penetrate deep into the city. The Piston Plasbos is one of the major city forests.
2. First residential area
In the summer of 1950, work began on the construction of the ring dike around Eastern Flevoland.
This ring dike was completed in 1956, after which the polder dried up a year later.
3. Oostvaardersdiep
The Zuiderzee originated in the twelfth century and took its final shape in the thirteenth century. Then the
Zuiderzee called 'Suder See'. From that time on, the inland sea became increasingly important for trade and transport.
4. Plane Wreckage
During the Second World War it was a familiar sound high in the air above Dutch soil:
the roar of the four-engine American bomber, type B-24H Liberator.
5. Shipwreck
The former Zuiderzee was a dangerous inland sea. It could be stormy and there were dangerous currents and unexpected shallows.
6. Larson
Ten villages would be built in Eastern Flevoland. Disappeared one by one
the villages from the plans. Larsen is the last village to disappear.
7. Industry
The Oostvaardersplassen is a nature reserve in Flevoland with an area of approximately 7,500 ha.
The area is not only of great importance to the Netherlands, but also internationally.
8. Knarhaven
In the summer of 1950, contractors commissioned by the Zuiderzee Works Service started construction of the ring dike of Eastern Flevoland.
