Port Oostvaardersplassen
A nature reserve of international value
At the bottom of the former Zuiderzee, a nature reserve has been created that is unparalleled in Europe: the Oostvaardersplassen. Tens of thousands of birds come here to refuel or find their nesting place during bird migration. All kinds of wild animals traverse the plains here.
The edges of the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve are freely accessible, and the wilderness is also easy to experience from one of the many vantage points. The countless bird species in this area are easy to spot from the bird huts. Also large grazers such as red deer, konik horses and Heck cattle are usually clearly visible. Smaller animals such as fox, deer and hare usually require a little better research.
Find out for yourself
Oostvaardersplassen can be discovered in different ways. Go on your own via one of the many hiking, cycling or ATB routes and discover the edges of the vast area. But also going on safari with a forester or strolling around with a nature guide is one of the possibilities. There are also fun special routes and activities for children. Want to relax? Buitencentrum Oostvaardersplassen offers a snack and a drink with a wide view over the lakes.
