You will find the Houtrib locks near the Lelystad coastal area.
This lock complex was opened in 1975 and was renovated in the period 2010-2012. The Houtribsluizen complex consists of two locks and a discharge sluice. They are the design of Piet Verhave of architectural firm Verhave, Luyt, De longh & Slikker.
The locks are each 190 m long and 18 m wide. They are suitable for ships up to 5,000 tons and for two-barge pusher vessels. The bridges are about 7 meters above the average water level. About 80,000 ships pass through these locks every year. The locks are operated 24 hours a day from a central control tower. The discharge sluice consists of six openings that can be closed with steel lifting doors. The total discharge capacity is a maximum of 630 m3 of water per second!
