Water sports are alive in Lelystad! Since 2020 there is a new hotspot in Flevoland for small water sports. The 400 meter long Batavia beach is located directly on the east side of the Markermeer near Lelystad and is perfect for (kite) surfing, supping or canoeing.
Bataviastrand is characterized by its excellent location on the Markermeer with almost always favorable wind, a large stretch of water and the absence of aquatic plants. This beach is excellent for both the novice and the advanced kite surfer.
This beach was constructed by Rijkswaterstaat on behalf of the province of Flevoland in response to a group of enthusiastic water sports enthusiasts united in Stichting Hoekipadijk.
This water sports beach is popular among water sports enthusiasts. Other visitors are of course also welcome. Please note that the Bataviastrand is designed for water sports and the bathing water quality is not supervised. Swimming is at your own risk.
Bataviastrand can be reached by car from the Markerwaarddijk. Parking is available close to the beach. In the summer it can get crowded. Therefore, pay close attention to the up-to-date information from the province.
If you live in the area, come by bike.
The Province of Flevoland manages Bataviastrand and is responsible for keeping the beach safe and clean. In the summer period 2021, waste containers will be available on the beach as well as sanitary facilities. Visitors are asked to leave the beach clean by taking as much waste as possible with them.
