Slenk Hollandse Hout

24 hectares of wet nature and new recreational opportunities!

wet nature

Staatsbosbeheer is constructing a rift (a water channel) in the Hollandse Hout. This creates a wetland forest where dragonflies, kingfishers and reed birds, but also grass snakes and beavers feel at home. The gradual forest edges are also attractive for butterflies, songbirds and (small) mammals.

Field work

The route of the rift runs for the most part through forest sections where several poplar clones had reached the end of their life cycle, or where less healthy ash trees were growing. The trees have been felled and the wood from the trunks has now found its way to various customers (including as bio raw material). The sand and clay released during the excavation work are used in infrastructure projects in Flevoland. In this way, all material is responsibly reused.
