Welcome to the site of the Flevoland Roeit Foundation from Lelystad. Bee
dinghy rowing is rowed in original sea-going lifeboats and
in whalers (whaling sloops). Today there are also
non-original rowing boats specially built for competition.
There are 6, 8, 10 and even 12 person rowing boats.
The Flevoland Roeit Foundation has existed since May 9, 1988.
Initially they rowed in a sloop from the Bataviawerf, the
"Hubert Jans". Later it was decided to build a new sloop. This
was done by its own crew led by GJ van der Rijd.
At the end of 1988, the keel of the 10-man rowing boat of the 'whaler' type
laid. This took place at Selecta Parket at Noordersluis. After nine
months of building on September 23, 1989
the sloop at the Flevo Marina marina christened "Hubert Jans 2". Hubert
Jans is a large timber importer from Harlingen who owns the timber
delivered for the Batavia and also for our sloop. This wood (pine) was
prepared by contractor Moes.
