Stichting Flevoland Roeit
Welcome to the site of the Flevoland Roeit Foundation from Lelystad. Sloop rowing involves rowing in original lifeboats from seagoing vessels and in whalers (sloops for whaling). Nowadays there are also non-original rowing boats that are specially built for competitions. There are 6-, 8-, 10- and even 12-person rowing boats.
The Flevoland Roeit Foundation has existed since May 9, 1988. Initially rowing was done in a sloop from the Bataviawerf, the "Hubert Jans". Later it was decided to build a new sloop. This was done by its own crew led by GJ van der Rijd. At the end of 1988 the keel of the 10-man rowing sloop of the 'whaler' type was laid. This took place at Selecta Parket on Noordersluis. After nine months of construction, on September 23, 1989 christened the sloop at marina Flevo Marina “Hubert Jans 2”. Hubert Jans is a large wood importer from Harlingen who supplied the wood for the Batavia and also for our sloop. This wood (pine) was prepared by contractor Moes.
