Project Masterpiece Dutch Landscape
Would you like to discover the story of Flevoland while cycling, seen through the eyes of the sea painters of past and present photographers? Then download the new app 'Masterpiece Dutch Landscape' with unique cycling routes such as the New Land audio route. This is approximately 35 km long, where you largely cycle on separate bicycle paths.
The Masterpiece Dutch Landscape project takes you on a journey to the past, present and future. Join us on a discovery and experience how the natural and culturally rich Dutch landscape is given space again. Not by freezing everything, but by a carefully considered development strategy and careful management. After all, new issues require new solutions and therefore adjustments to our landscape.
While cycling through Nieuw Land National Park, you will hear more about the history of the Zuiderzee and the IJsselmeer polders. And thus also the story of the threatening water and how the Dutch have learned to live with this powerful element. The route takes you over the Knardijk to the Oostvaardersdijk on the Markermeer and through the green zones from Lelystad to Hollands Hout in the Oostvaardersplassen. Be surprised along the way by the story of the gullies and gullies, quay and latch, new polders and lost ships.
The route starts at the Buitencentrum Oostvaardersplassen at Kitsweg 1 in Lelystad. There are eight places where you can stop during the route. To view paintings and photos in the app and to learn more about, among other things, the industrial estate that ultimately did not come and how fertile land became beautiful nature. You will also get to know the very young Flevoland, seen through the eyes of sea painters Bakhuizen and Schotel and contemporary photographers such as Ger Dekkers, Wout Berger and Witho Worms.
Are you also cycling through the Nieuw Land National Park and its surroundings?
How to download?
The New Land audio route is the first in the Dutch Landscape Masterpiece series, which was developed for the theme year Ode to the Landscape. You can download the app in the Google Play Store or App Store† Five more audio trails will follow in the coming months, each starring a different national park. In this way we put the Dutch national parks in the spotlight this year. Both the beauty and the contemporary issues of management and development are discussed during these special cycling routes.
