Cycle route: Landart & landscape Lelystad

TOTAL DISTANCE

33
km
In 1924 it was the Zuiderzee here, now you cycle on straight cycle paths of reclaimed land.

Engineer Lely was the founder of the reclamation, reclamation and layout of the new land. The Zuiderzee became IJsselmeer after the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932. After that, work could start on constructing the other polders.
The new layout was straight and tight. You can still see that when you cycle outside Lelystad. This route introduces you to the typical polder landscape: straight long roads and windmills. But also with the unique landscape artworks of the polder: a steel giant of almost 26 meters high and a prehistoric monument that, according to the designer Morris, also reflects time.

This striking 26-meter high steel giant peers eternally from the Bataviahaven in Lelystad towards the Markermeer. With his appearance he lures you from afar. Do pay him a visit, but know that he will let you go without answering your questions.

Artwork Hevelhuisje

On the seawall past junction 96 there is a construction that has the shape of the former siphon house.

The first landscape artwork in Flevoland is Observatorium by the American artist Robert Morris. In 1977 it was made near Lelystad

06

City center

The main shopping center of Lelystad will become, more than ever, the bustling center of Lelystad in the coming years.

07

Agora Theatre, Cinema & Convention Center

The high-profile and hospitable Agora Theater is located in the heart of Lelystad. The orange diamond in the heart of Lelystad has an inviting foyer, two intimate small (film) rooms and an atmospheric large room.

08

The Cube

Kubus connects as many (young) Lelystad residents with art and culture as possible. Whether that happens at Kubus itself, in schools or in the neighborhoods, stimulating enthusiasm in (the practice of) art and developing creative talent is all that matters. Kubus offers art and culture for everyone: at school and during leisure time. For young and old. For people with disabilities. From beginner to advanced. In addition, Kubus is theater, concert hall, open stage and exhibition space in one.
