Kunstwerk Hevelhuisje
Near
On the seawall past junction 96 there is a construction that has the shape of the former siphon house.
In that siphon house were vacuum pumps, which pumped the air out of the siphon pipes in order to allow the IJsselmeer water to flow to the woods of the fish pond complex. The water for the fish farm had to be changed regularly and then the siphon was put back into use. With the discontinuation of the fish farm, the siphon has become redundant and has been removed. The design of the siphon house with the round roof is by the Hague architect Romke de Vries, who also designed the two houses at the entrance to the fish pond area.
The IJsselmeer dyke, on which the siphon house is located, protects Flevoland against the water in the IJsselmeer and has a crown height of NAP + 4.80 meters.
