The Oostvaardersplassen are part of the largest man-made nature park in the world; New Land National Park. Lelystad is one of the youngest cities in the Netherlands, built on the bottom of the former Zuiderzee. Lelystad has areas where recreation and nature go hand in hand, making our young city ideal for nature lovers.
In the area you can walk and cycle through an untouched swamp area with vast pools and wild grasslands. Countless birds can be seen from the bird hides that have chosen the Oostvaardersplassen as their habitat.

Viewpoint de Greylag Goose - Oostvaardersplassen
From the hut De Greylag Goose you have the chance to spot bearded man, bittern, water rail, pintail, great egret and cormorant. Also look out for beaver tracks! The path to the hut is about half a kilometer long and you can already see a lot on the way.

Viewpoint de Krakeend - Oostvaardersplassen
A short circular walk takes you through this area with many waterfowl and Konik horses. You can see various duck species here and in winter you might even see gray shrike or rough-legged buzzard. With a small detour you will also pass bird hide De Poelruiter.
