Get on your bike at the outdoor center of the Oostvaardersplassen and discover Lelystad at its best. The bicycle route 'Lelystads prettiest' takes you for 35 kilometers along beautiful nature reserves and the highlights of the city, such as Werkeiland, the Bataviakwartier and Nature Park Lelystad.

Oostvaardersplassen
The starting point of the route is immediately a unique experience. The pristine wetland area gives a great impression of the Dutch landscape from thousands of years ago. The vast pools and wild grasslands provide space for large grazers and countless birds.
Work island
Experience Lelystad's history at Werkeiland, the place where engineer Lely's plan to reclaim land from water was started. This is the place where the reclamation of Eastern Flevoland started. Breathe in the rich history, cycling past the original barracks, the Wortman pumping station and the difference in height at the lock.
Bataviakwartier
The Bataviakwartier offers countless possibilities. With more than 250 well-known fashion brands, Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet is a true shopping paradise for real bargain hunters. You immerse yourself in national history by visiting Batavialand. Experience the history in the museum, on the wharf and on board the reconstruction of the old VOC ship the Batavia. The boulevard at the Bataviahaven is an excellent place to unwind and relax with a snack or drink overlooking the water. Time for a few extra kilometers? Take a closer look at Exposure landscape artwork! This 26 meter high 'crouching man' by artist Antony Gormley consists of 1800 unique steel profiles and is even more impressive up close.
Beach and forest
Lelystad is one of the largest municipalities in the Netherlands, partly because of the large amount of water and nature that belong to the territory. Did you know that two thirds of Lelystad consists of water? This is beautifully symbolized by the Houtribhoekstrand and the Zuigerplasbos. At Houtribhoekstrand you can enjoy the view of the IJsselmeer. Close by is the Zuigerplasbos, which was created by the extraction of the sand that was used for the construction of the dike along the IJsselmeer. The green landscape of the Zuigerplasbos offers a variety of lawns, groups of trees and shrubs. This variety means that the grounds are inhabited by several small songbirds and that the fields are filled with colorful butterflies in the summer months.
City center Lelystad
The route continues through the city center of Lelystad. In the Stadshart you will find various architectural works that show that Lelystad is still a young city where a lot is possible. The striking Agora Theater and the Zilverparkkade are good examples of this. The diamond-shaped orange building called Agora Theater was designed by Ben van Berkel, designer of the Erasmus Bridge, among others. High-profile architecture with lots of space, light and luxury was the starting point for the Zilverkade. All offices and residential towers have a great diversity in architecture, because they are designed by different architects.
Nature Park Lelystad
Cycle through Lelystad Nature Park and come face to face with red deer, Przewalski horses or even moose. Nowhere else can you get so close to these special animal species. Nature Park Lelystad is the location to experience the space, tranquility and the beautiful Flevoland nature.

'Work Island' Lelystad
Work Island Lelystad was the first inhabited part of the not yet reclaimed Eastern Flevoland, now part of the Lelystad-Haven district. An island, Plot P, in the middle of the IJsselmeer, was the starting point of the dike construction around the new polder in 1950.
